Mononofu (ものの歩 Mononofu) is a manga series written and illustrated by Haruto Ikezawa.
Plot[]
Awkward Takara Shinobu has always been rejected for being incompetent, a “dunce”. No matter how hard he tries – with studies or with people – he always fails. And now he's stuck going to a back-up high school far from home.
Due to a miscommunication, he winds up living in a share-house dedicated to training shougi pros. Introduced to the world of shougi, Shinobu has finally made a connection with people who understand and accept him. However...now he wants to go pro too!?

Kayane Manor[]
- Takara Shinobu: The main male protagonist of Mononofu. He is a first year student at Senga High School and an amateur shōgi player. He learned how to play shōgi in the boarding house Kayane Manor and has since aspired to become a professional shōgi player. His greatest strengths in Shogi is his extreme focus, and meticulous studying of the game.
- Naoi Yasukane: A resident at Kayane Manor. He, like his fellow roommates, is seeking to become a pro shōgi player. He is a good teacher, and takes a parental role of the residents, and was the one to teach Shinobu about Shogi.
- Keishi: A resident at Kayane Manor. He, like his fellow roommates, is seeking to become a pro shōgi player. He is well known for having the most losses of any memeber, and forced to be stuck on Toilet duty.
- Minato: The sole female She, like her fellow roommates, is seeking to become a pro shōgi player. She has very little modesty, often striping an wearing skimpy clothes in the manor. Whe outside, she often gets "Dolled up". It is hinted she has a crush on Shinobu.
- Kazuki: A resident at Kayane Manor. He, like his fellow roommates, is seeking to become a pro shōgi player. He takes the game seriously, to the point of puking when he lost a tournament.
- Ginga: A resident at Kayane Manor. He, like his fellow roommates, is seeking to become a pro shōgi player. He is aloof, deadpan, and hardly smiles. He is a close friend of Yasukane.
Other Characters[]
- Fujikawa Rindou: A shōgi player and a classmate of Takara Shinobu. He is the grandson of the former Meijin, or top player, of shōgi. He takes Shoji very seriously, and has a short temper. Through the series, he slowly becomes Shinobu's best friend due to their shared love of Shoji.
- Sagara Jippo: A professional gamer, known for his highly efficient strategy guides. Due to these comprehensive guides, every game that he has played has died out quickly, earning him the epithet "The Content Killer". After playing against Shinobu, he becomes his friend and rival.
