The Gold Future Cup (金未来杯,ゴールドフューチャーカップ?) is an annual competition organized by the editors of Weekly Shōnen Jump since 2004 reserved for first-time authors, i.e. authors who have not yet been published in the main magazine, either with series or self-contained stories. The competition usually starts between summer and autumn, with the duration varying depending on the number of participants in the competition. The winner of the contest then has the opportunity to serialize their manga on Shonen Jump and, if they obtain excellent results, the other non-winning participating works also have this possibility. But despite the excellent results in this competition it is not guaranteed that the works will survive long in the magazine due to the presence of much longer-lived and popular series. The authors who participated in this competition and managed to survive for a long time with the series in the magazine are Yoshiyuki Nishi, Ryuhei Tamura and Hiroshi Shiibashi .
An author's participation in the Gold Future Cup is at the discretion of the Shonen Jump editors . After having been chosen, you must deliver your self-contained chapter to your publisher who will then turn it over to the editorial team and publish it in the magazine during the competition period. Unlike the self-contained stories normally published on Jump , the stories of the Gold Future Cup are voted differently: in addition to the usual preference vote, an approval vote is also given to the individual stories. After obtaining the results of the votes, the editorial team meets to decide who will be the winner.
Series in bold are the winners of that year's Gold Future Cup.
